If you want to improve your first touch soccer technique TODAY and not next season, this is for you!
Tired of losing the ball, giving away possession, and letting your teammates down? This does NOT have to happen anymore. I’m going to give you the gift of a better first touch, sharper ball control, and more confidence when receiving passes.
In this article (video below) I will show you the secrets of a better first touch in soccer, the most common mistakes players make when receiving passes, and some helpful advice on first touch soccer training.
Soccer First Touch Technique
The first touch is the most important touch in soccer.
If you cannot receive a pass, you will always be a liability to your team. You will give away possession too easily. No one will trust you with the ball. Your coach won’t play you as much.
It will be impossible to perform more advanced skills like beating defenders, making assists, and scoring goals. Focus on perfecting your first touch. When you have more confidence in this area – it will give you the foundation needed to develop more advanced soccer skills.
If you’re currently struggling with these problems, don’t stress.
You can improve your first touch technique. Other players have done it, so why can’t you? With a few simple fixes you will be controlling the ball, keep better possession, and playing with more confidence.

You can do this!
“Whether you believe you can or believe you can’t. You are correct.” – Henry Ford
Your mind is extremely powerful. I’m telling you, that you have the ability to improve every single skill, physical ability, and mental weakness you currently posses. But if you don’t tell yourself improvement is possible, it will never happen.
Get the information. Put in the repetitions. Learn from your mistakes. Repeat the process. You’ve got this. But what I did just for you, you need to do for yourself.
If your mind isn’t working for you. It’s definitely working against you. The earlier you can start to understand how powerful your mind is, the more success you will have.
I know you want the specific first touch soccer drills and tips BUT all of that information is wasted if you don’t have control of your own mind.
Whether it’s individual training, team practices, or matches – become aware of the internal dialogue going on in your head. If you talk to yourself negatively, you are going to produce negative outcomes. If you talk to yourself positively, you are going to produce positive outcomes.

How To Do A First Touch In Soccer
With those basic principles in mind, here is some helpful advice on how to have a better first touch in soccer practices and games.
#1 – Be active. Stay alert with your body and mind. Get off your heels and on your toes. Be ready before the ball gets to you. Don’t react as the ball arrives at your feet. Focus on your movement and not just your soccer first touch technique.
#2 – Body behind the ball. Instead of lunging for your first touch. Focus on getting your body behind the ball. Quickly move your feet so your entire body is behind the pass whenever possible. This will put you into a position to have more control over your touches and quicker reactions if the ball gets away from you.
#3 – Decide early. Before the ball arrives, you should already have an idea of where you want to go. Average players are only thinking about getting the ball under control. Great players are thinking ahead of the game. They already know which space they want to go into with their first touch.
#4 – Watch the ball to your foot. If you’re currently struggling with you soccer first touch. Do not take your eye off the ball until you’ve watched it make contact with your foot. Focus on the exact point of the ball you want to touch. More focus will create better results.
#5 – Move with your touch. As you touch the ball into space, move with it. Don’t let your touch bounce off your foot and then react. As you make the first touch, your body moves with the ball. If you can bring as much focus to the quality of your movement as you do the quality of your touches – your first touch will improve OVERNIGHT.
First Touch Soccer MISTAKES
I’ve already given you some advice on how to improve your first touch technique in soccer BUT here are the most common mistakes. If you focus on improving these two things your first touch will be better by tomorrow, guaranteed.
#1 – Being flat footed. As we addressed, your movement is just as important as your touches. Catch yourself when you’re playing flat footed. Standing on your heels. Waiting for the ball to arrive. Get ready. Be active. Stay on your toes. This will make your first touch better right away.
#2 – Negative mindset. Next, you must eliminate the negative mindset. The reason so many players have bad touches is because they are thinking about having a bad touch. They are not in the present moment. Instead, they are thinking about getting tackled, losing the ball, teammates yelling at them, coaches getting upset, or the bad first touch they had last time.
You cannot change the past and you can only influence the future by staying in the present moment. Focus on what you can control. Your positive mindset, the space you are going to attack, the movement of your body, and the quality of your first touch technique

If you don’t know about me…
I used to be a soccer player who struggled with self-confidence. I felt slow, weak, and unmotivated. My coaches didn’t pay much attention to me, my friends laughed at my lack of skills. At one point, I even became so discouraged that I quit the sport altogether.
Enough was enough. I decided to take control of my own development and set out on a journey to become a better soccer player. This path led me on an incredible journey of self-improvement.
I went on to win league and goal-scoring titles, earn awards, lift trophies, and received a college scholarship. I’ve even earned international caps for my country.
I started sharing my knowledge with others and teaching them how to become the best soccer players they could be. My YouTube channel grew to over 500,000 subscribers.
In addition, I coached for several youth clubs in my local city, and even started my own soccer training company. I went on to coach the most prestigious men’s club in my city for several years.
But enough about me, let’s focus on you.
If you’re looking to improve your skills, let’s take your soccer game to the next level. I want to help you make a noticeable change in style of play and overall performance on the field.
