In this article & video I’ll show you how to develop:

  • The mindset shift that can make some players more aggressive overnight.
  • Helpful partner drills to encourage playing aggressive in soccer.
  • Strategies to actually play soccer more aggressive in real matches!

Why You Should Be More Aggressive In Soccer

If you’re not aggressive you would be involved in the play, you will lose your individual battles, you will struggle defensively, and you won’t score as many goals.

Aggressive soccer players take the game! They don’t let the game happen. Aggressive players seize the opportunity. They don’t let the match slip away.

When you play soccer aggressively you make an impact. Even if your technical skills are lacking, you can still make a difference in a game, simply through your aggressive style of play.

How To Get More Aggressive In Soccer

First, you need to switch your mentality. Being shy and timid is cute when you’re 5 years old. After that it doesn’t serve you well in life. It certainly doesn’t make you effective on the soccer field.

If you say things like:

“I’ve always been shy.”
“I’m just not aggressive.”
“I don’t know how to get involved.’

Understand, these are not your genetic traits. They are beliefs given to you by your parents, coaches, teammates, and experiences. Someone told you, you were that way. You adopted that identity. You can also create a new one.

Just as you adopted that identity of being shy and timid. You can create a new identity starting today. You are a beast. A soccer machine. A player who gives 100% effort and intensity. You play aggressive soccer every time you step on the pitch. You are a winner. Who doesn’t get pushed around, seizes opportunity, fights for your position, and always gives their best.

The Fear Of Getting Injured

Most players lack aggression because they have a fear of getting hurt or injured.

Please understand, the player who gets hurt 90% of the time is the one who goes into situations with less aggression. If you think you’re going to get hurt and you don’t fully commit to the tackle, you will be the one who ends up injured / hurt.

If you go into tackles and individual battles with bravery, full commitment, intensity, and aggression you will be fine. The player who has the least commitment is the one who loses.

Also, injuries / getting hurt are part of the game. Serious career ending injuries are few and far between. It’s actually important for players to take a few knocks, bumps, and bruises. It makes you tougher and also makes you realize that it’s not that bad.

Professional players are always playing with some sort of knock or minor injury. You must develop the toughness to play through these things.

Don’t be scared. It’s part of the game. And if you are scared, realize that your bravery is on the other side of what you’re scared of. If you hide from this it will always be an obstacle you need to overcome. The time is now!

Tips To Play Soccer Aggressive

With that mentality shift use these 3 changes to your technique if you’re serious about learning how to increase shooting power in soccer:

#1 – Pre-match self talk. Before your game, remind yourself why it’s important to be aggressive. Acknowledge your lack of aggression is a problem that is holding you back from reaching your full potential. Make a commitment to be more aggressive in today’s match!

#2 – Identify opportunities. Look for moments during the match where you can be more aggressive. Defending, tackles, 50/50 balls, aerial battles, stopping shots. There are opportunities all over the field to get more involved. Also, identify moments when you could have been aggressive but you didn’t.

#3 – Surprise yourself. Just do it! Get involved. Go for the tackle. Battle with your opponent. Chase the ball down. You will surprise yourself how many times you win the ball and do something positive because of your new mindset towards aggression. You’ll start to get excited and seek more opportunities to put these ideas into practice!

If You Don’t Start Playing Aggressive

You can read this information and still decide to go back to your old habits of playing timidly and lacking intensity. However, if you choose to do this several things may happen:

  • You will never reach your full potential.
  • Coaches won’t be able to trust you on the field.
  • Your teammates will lose respect for you.
  • You won’t standout as much when you play.
  • You will not be able to play at higher levels.
  • And you’ll always have regrets after games.

The choice is yours. It’s really a shift in mindset. You can continue to use your old unproductive habits. Get bullied on the field and let your team down. Or you can make the shift. It’s up to you and it’s easier than you think.

About The Author

I used to be a soccer player who struggled with self-confidence. I felt slow, weak, and unmotivated. My coaches didn’t pay much attention to me, my friends laughed at my lack of skills. At one point, I even became so discouraged that I quit the sport altogether.

Enough was enough. I decided to take control of my own development and set out on a journey to become a better soccer player. This path led me on an incredible journey of self-improvement.

I went on to win league and goal-scoring titles, earn awards, lift trophies, and received a college scholarship. I’ve even earned international caps for my country.

I started sharing my knowledge with others and teaching them how to become the best soccer players they could be. My YouTube channel grew to over 500,000 subscribers. I’ve coached for the top youth clubs & men’s teams in my city, and have my own soccer training company.
