In fact, the hardest part of improving stamina for soccer is the mental barrier you’ve currently set up for yourself. If you can start to understand that increasing stamina & endurance is as much a mental challenge as it is physical, you’ve already won half the battle.
Win the struggle in your mind and the physical work becomes easy.
Obviously, you need to train and there are certain soccer drills to increase stamina that you can do. But the quickest way to increase your endurance is by switching the way you look at hard work.
If you can learn to look at hard work as a positive thing. Something you want to do because you know it’s going to make you better. Something you are willing to do because it will separate you from your competition. Then suddenly, the hard work becomes a little easier.

This mindset shift is the most important factor in determine not only how fast you will increase your ability to run longer than anyone else. But this is foundation for your success in soccer (and life).
Hard work is not something you have to do.

The only other thing I want explain in more detail before we go into the exact drills and exercises you can use to improve your endurance is your BREATHING.
Changing the way you breathe is the easiest hack to improve your endurance (along with nutrition, hydration, and supplementation). The hard work is necessary but learning how to breathe properly can improve your stamina & endurance without hard work.
The proper way to breathe is through the nose.
How To Improve Stamina Through Breathing
Nasal breathing has massive improved my personal endurance and it’s something I preach to all my players. You should always breath through your nose. In fact, the only time your mouth should be open is when you are eating or talking.
If you are making this transition, in the beginning it will feel awkward. This is because you’ve probably been breathing incorrectly through your mouth for your entire life. Of course this transition to a properly style of breathing will feel awkward.
Stick with it. Become aware and catch yourself when you’re breathing through your mouth instead of your nose. Overtime this will become more natural and you will be able to do it unconsciously.
Obviously, during matches when you are playing at full intensity there will be times when you breathe through your mouth. This is okay but when you are consciously of your body, during times of rest, low intensity, recovery come back to conscious breathing and do your best to breathe through your nose.

Please remember that watching this video will not improve your endurance unless you are willing to put this principles into consistent practice. Stop looking for the easy way out. Go into the hard work because that is the path to your progress.
Understand that knowledge is only power when it’s put into action. Make the necessary changes to your mindset, technique, training, and don’t expect yourself to be perfect overnight. You don’t stop practicing your technical skills, so why do players expect to master stamina in one day. Be consistent and you will develop the fitness improvements that you desire.
