Soccer Shooting Practice Session For Beginners
If you want to score more goals, have powerful shots, and strike fear into opponents every time you get the ball around goal, you will need a reliable soccer shooting practice.
Most players will complain about their shooting skills but if we analyze they way they train, they don’t deserve to be good at shooting.
Shooting is one of the most difficult soccer skills to master but it’s also the most rewarding. Great shooters are dangerous players. They don’t need many chances to score goals. They convert!
In this video / article I’ll show you the best soccer shooting practice drills. These improvements will impress your coaches & teammates. But most importantly, translate into more goals in real matches.
Soccer Shooting Practice Drills
If we want to improve our shooting skills we need to find a way to complete more repetitions, without fancy equipment, other players, or coaches.
The fastest way to improve your shooting technique is individual training.
If the one time you practice shooting is when you are in team sessions, you will also struggle to develop the shooting power, accuracy, and consistency you desire.
In a team practice you are often waiting in line, watching other players shoot, and may only complete 10-20 shots during a specific shooting drill.
When you have an individual shooting practice for soccer you can get 100s of shots, in less time, with all the attention on yourself. If you want to improve your shooting skills make sure you are doing some form of shooting daily (10-20 minutes per day). This can make a massive difference in your shots within only 1 week.
How To Practice Shooting In Soccer
If you’ve been following my coaching methods for a while, you know I’m a huge believer in training the mind with everything you do. If you have a weak mentality you will always struggle to improve at the rate you desire.
Shooting is no different.
Frustration is something most players struggle with. They let their frustration overpower them and it discourages them from training. Realize that frustration can be an incredible source of motivation. If you are not happy with your shooting skills, channel this into your training.
Do you want to struggle with shooting for the rest of your career?
If the answer is NO – use this motivation to fix this problem now. Being frustrated and giving up will only leave you in the same situation. Let your frustration fuel you to become better. Calm your mind. Learn from your mistakes. Put in more practice.
Best Soccer Shooting Practice Advice
There are many different ways to practice shooting but if you’re serious about making the fastest improvements in the shortest period of time, the wall is the way to go.
A wall is an amazing training partner. It never gets tired and always passes the ball back to you. You only need one ball and you don’t have to spend valuable time chasing missed shots.
In the video below I’ll show you how to use a wall to improve your shooting skills. There are many different variations. However, it’s best to start with the basics.
As you become more confident in you soccer shooting with both feet, you can move into more advanced soccer shooting practice drills.
Soccer Shooting Practice Plan
Completing more repetitions will only make you better if you are analyze each shot and asking yourself:
“How can I make my soccer shooting technique better”
If you keep doing the same thing, you will get the same results. Here are a few key ideas to focus on when you are shooting to make your shots better:
#1 – Foot flex. In order to produce a powerful shot, you need to have a flexed foot. Lock your ankle. Point your toes to the ground and make your foot as hard as possible. Also, think about flexing your quad muscle, your calves, and your entire leg. Keep this flexed leg and foot as you make contact and into your follow through.
#2 – Swing range & speed. A small range of motion will produce a weak foot. A bigger range of motion will produce a more power shot. Focus on having a bigger back swing and a bigger follow through. Also, increase the speed of your swing. The faster you swing your leg, the more power you will produce.
#3 – Body control. The positioning of your body is very important when shooting. Try to get over the ball, make a strong plant with your non-shooting leg, and direct your shoulders towards the goal. Most players only think about their leg when shooting but good shooters always think about the positioning of their body.
Soccer Shooting Drills To Avoid
I love shooting a soccer ball into a net. It’s definitely way more gratifying than kicking a ball against a wall. However, if you don’t have a large amount of balls it’s ineffective.
If you only have one soccer ball and practice your shooting on a net. You will hit your shoot. Run to retrieve the ball. Come back. Shoot again and repeat the process.
You will spend more time running and setting up, than actually shooting.
If you have 10+ soccer balls by all means, utilize the net. Your time will not be wasted but if you only have one soccer ball and your goal is to improve your soccer shooting skills, I would definitely encourage you to use a wall.
I will share a simple soccer shooting practice routine you can follow as well as a video to demonstrate each shooting exercise below.
Soccer Shooting Practice Session
Here is the shooting routine great for players of all ages.
Especially for younger players who simply need more repetitions. The reason most kids are NOT good at shooting is because they haven’t practiced enough.

Don’t expect yourself to be good at something if you haven’t practiced the basics. Even professionals practice basics like these. If you think you’re good enough, you’re obviously not. The best players know there is always room for improvement, no matter how good they become.
Individual Soccer Shooting Session Plan
“I am not a perfectionist, but I like to feel that things are done well. More important than that, I feel an endless need to learn, to improve, to evolve, not only to please the coach and the fans but also to feel satisfied with myself. It is my conviction that there are no limits to learning and that it can never stop, no matter what our age.” – Cristiano Ronaldo

If you don’t know about me…
I used to be a soccer player who struggled with self-confidence. I felt slow, weak, and unmotivated. My coaches didn’t pay much attention to me, my friends laughed at my lack of skills. At one point, I even became so discouraged that I quit the sport altogether.
Enough was enough. I decided to take control of my own development and set out on a journey to become a better soccer player. This path led me on an incredible journey of self-improvement.
I went on to win league and goal-scoring titles, earn awards, lift trophies, and received a college scholarship. I’ve even earned international caps for my country.
I started sharing my knowledge with others and teaching them how to become the best soccer players they could be. My YouTube channel grew to over 500,000 subscribers.
In addition, I coached for several youth clubs in my local city, and even started my own soccer training company. I went on to coach the most prestigious men’s club in my city for several years.
But enough about me, let’s focus on you.
If you’re looking to improve your skills, let’s take your soccer game to the next level. I want to help you make a noticeable change in style of play and overall performance on the field.
